VeloMSM Kids Chain Gang Group Lessons
Kids & Youths: 8-14
Beginner, Level 1, Level 2
Times: 10:30am - 1:30pm
Are you into mountain biking? Do you want to have more fun on the trail? We want to help you to ride better and we know a whole pile of skills that you can learn and practice!
We alwasy split into groups to ride different trails of the VeloMSM Lake Loop.
Beginners will ride Hollywood Boulevard, Baseline, Route 66 and Malibu. You'll learn all about your bike, brakes and gears, And how to be stabel on your bike so you can be safe and start to explore.
Level 1 riders will do the entire lake loop starting at Cookies climb, Slingshot, Thunderbird, Lower Ridgeback, Low Cal, Route 66 and Malibu, and learn about braking, body positioning, climbing, and a little cornering.
Level 2 riders may do the entire lake loop and TTOP climb and and Trans Am depending on what we are practicing that day. We will always work on how to improve body position, cornering, roll downs, hard climbing, and we'll practice pressure control and trail flow. To take a Level 2 you must already have taken a lesson with us, or be really good. Like, really, really good.
All groups will learn about bike controls, braking, shifting, getting on and off the bike, good riding positions on your bike, how to climb hills, how to go down hills and small rocks, scanning the trail so you can see what’s coming at you, and how to corner. Kids that were at a previous RideOttawa clinic will continue to build on the skills they already learned, and will learn some new ones!
We’ll meet at the Gazebo and start practicing there, ride around the Lake Loops practicing skills and riding, have lunch back at the Gazebo and then get back on the trails for more riding. We’ll finish up back at the Gazebo where everyone can ask more questions about the skills and we can ride the wood features before heading home.
Don't forget snacks and a Lunch!
Note that to add multiple riders you will need to check out each rider separately.
This session is for kids and youths 8-14 who can ride around the Lake Loop. It's OK if they have to walk a few features. After learning fundamental skills we will be riding on the trails for about 2.5 hours and taking lots of stops. Kids need to have lots of water, snacks and a packed lunch. The meeting and starting place is the Lodge Gazebo. We will return there for lunch, and meet back at the Gazebo for 2:00pm to wrap up the last 1/2 hour.
The purposes of this clinic are:
1. To be fun and sociable for all participants
(Riding with friends is almost always more fun than riding with parents)
2. To help develop an appropriate ABC skills foundation for mountain biking
(Agility, balance, coordination on the trail)
3. To promote skills confidence and riding self-esteem
(Controlled and safe practice and pacing gets results)
4. To provide an opportunity to develop appreciation for the outdoors
(We love living healthy and active outdoors!)
We're excited to offer this special clinic and rate to MSM Families !
(Don't forget to thank Tina for setting it up)
After registration, we will send you a link to our digital waiver and rider information form. We will need emergency contact information, a list of any allergies and medications, and health card information for each child. If your child has emergency medication, such as an Epipen, you MUST supply this to our instructor in a ziplock bag clearly labelled with your child's name, emergency contact information and health card number prior to the session.
We want to have everyone on our clinics, but we reserve the right at our sole discretion to cancel bookings and refund clinic payment where individual medical conditions are high-risk in Wilderness First-Aid conditions where emergency response times are over 30 minutes.
